Endgames

A few positions worth knowing cold.

You play the side that should reach the goal. The other side answers with Stockfish when it is installed, and with a small built-in policy when it is not.

King and queen vs king
Deliver checkmate. Do not stalemate the lone king.
King and rook vs king
Deliver checkmate. Keep the rook safe and leave the king a square until the mate.
King and pawn vs king: the opposition
Promote the pawn and win. Your king has the opposition.
Outside passed pawn
Promote the passed b-pawn, or use it to win Black's kingside pawns.
Lucena position
Promote the pawn or win the rook. Build a bridge for your king.
Philidor position
Hold the draw. Keep the rook on the sixth rank until the pawn steps up, then check from behind.
King activity
Take the opposition, invade, and win the pawn.
Pawn race
Promote your pawn first, and do not let Black promote.
